Album: The Golden Age
Appears On (Mixes): The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates
Song Notes: Another band who had a minor hit with "I See The Light" (though a wholly different song), Cracker. This is from The Golden Age, their 1996 album for Virgin records. I really liked this album quite a bit, even though it didn't seem to be reviewed as well as the others (and I've been seeing it in cheap bins, lately....). This is basically just a fun little rock number that I've always loved. It's not necessarily the most standout track on this record, but, hey, if the filler is this good, how about the whole record, right? It's funny, because I've heard that Virgin is about to release another best-of package, despite just doing Garage D'Or only a few years ago, and them only having done two records since then (one of which, the excellent Countrysides got them dropped from Virgin before it was released!), so, hey, I don't know what the deal is with that. I hope that it doesn't have any bonus non-released tracks or anything, because I'd be kind of annoyed if I have to buy the same 10, 15 songs again to get 1 or 2 new ones. Although, well, if they put "Ain't Gonna Suck Itself" on there, it might make the rebuying of most of the stuff go down a bit easier. After all, how many songs are there that are both about being dropped from your label and take a detour into Residents history, huh? - Rev. Syung Myung Me
