Amon Düül was a German rock band that originated in the student movement at the end of the sixties. The band Amon Düül II was a more conventional and more popular continuation. The groups are seen as founders in the German rock music and important influences in the development of Krautrock.

Amon Düül began in 1967 as a commune of artists from Munich, who are called to the Egyptian Sun God Amon Düül, and which consists of a character from Turkish fiction would be. The commune was given a cult status for his musical sessions at the happenings and demonstrations of the politically engaged youth.
A group within the commune had a very open attitude to artistic freedom and took everyone on who wanted to make music, regardless of whether they could sing or play music. Another group was more reserved and more conservative in that regard. Eventually it came to a rupture between the groups, who call themselves "Amon Düül I" and "Amon Düül II" called. From then on to both their own way.
Amon Düül I held itself like the other engaged in creative and free experiment and improvise. The frequently changing occupation, the band, however, not for the better. The band members were close to Kommune 1 in Berlin and Uschi Obermaier as ranking member could it to the front, a glamour girl of the day. A year later, around 1969-1970, however, the Group held views. Nevertheless, one had released four albums released each time their rivals, which one released an album. Nowadays, these albums have become collector's items and are considered important albums in the history of German rock music seen.
Unlike their colleagues in Amon Düül I, Chris Karrer, Peter attached and Ulrich Leopold, Falk Rogner, John Weinzierl and Renate Knaup great importance to musical talent. With their first album Phallus Dei from1969, they created a milestone from the German rock history. The title song only lasted 21 minutes. The band received offers to write film music. The music for the film San Domingo earned them a Deutscher Filmpreis on.
The second album, Yeti, meant the break-through in England. It earned them sometimes comparisons with Pink Floyd and The Velvet Underground on. the following years live and studio albums each scored their good. For they signed to Atlantic Records in 1975 was the band independently and produced his own albums. This changed, however, and followed the commercial success on Atlantic Records and checked the production. The creativity of the Group started to disappear and after the appearance of a last album with the group in 1978 held on.
In the early 1980s, appeared again two groups. Chris, Falk, Renate and the others blew new life into Amon Düül II with two new albums, while John with a group from Wales also tried the former magic to generate again. As Amon Düül (UK) brought this group between 1982 and 1989 five albums, but this allowed the creativity, let alone the success, of the earlier years not repeat.
In the early 1990s knew German rock again success; groups like Can and Amon Düül made a comeback or brought old and new albums. Chris, Renate, Falk and John spent the occupation remained almost completely together, though originally this Exchange, just like it used to. Some are the frequently changing occupation seen as obstacle in achieving the utmost success in the rock industry, but still remained after several decades the band still active.
