Arthur Ira Garfunkel (Queens (New York), november 5, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter and is best known as half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel (with Paul Simon). They brought a number of albums, including Parsley, Sage, Rosemary & Thyme (1966), and Bridge Over Troubled Water (1970). Also the soundtrack of the filmThe Graduate (1968) contains a lot of their music, including the song Mrs. Robinson.

Garfunkel was born in Queens, New York. When he was four, he was first encountered music. The first tape recorder came in huize Garfunkel. Later, during his primary school-period, he began with the singing of songs by, among others, the Everly Brothers, along with Paul Simon, whom he already knew from school. They formed a band and began with small performances. They called themselves Tom and Jerry and also under that name got their first recording contract. Hey School girl was a song she had written. Later they went further as Simon & Garfunkel.

Solo[Edit]Edit

Simon & Garfunkel In 1970 went apart by dissension. After he had started a number of years Garfunkel in 1973 with a solo career as a songwriter and singer. In 1979 he had his biggest hit with Bright Eyes, released as part of the soundtrack of the film Watership Down. The Netherlands was the best-selling single of the year in 1979.

Tour On Foot[Edit]Edit

In 1983 he decided a walk to make by the United States from the East Coast to the west coast. He started in New York and ran a number of days each month; in the end, he there about 13 years. He came to in april 1996 in the State of Washington. Of this walk is also a dvd made. In response, Iisweb.vbs displays passages from his diary (which he kept throughout his tour) combined with a live performance recorded in 1996 on Ellis Island. During this gig also sang a duet with James Taylor Garfunkel and sang his wife Kim Cermack Garfunkel also some numbers.

Simon and Garfunkel In 1981 came back together for a concert in Central Park in New York and in 2003 for a tour of America and Europe.
