Ave Maria by Johann Sebastian Bach and Charles Gounod is a well-known and often recorded music piece. It is a version of the Latin prayer Ave Maria (Hail Mary).

This Ave Maria was written by Gounod in 1859. He composed it as melody at the Prelude No. 1 in C major, also the first part of Das wohltemperierte Klavier, that Bach had composed in 1722.

From the Ave Maria are many different instrumental arrangements, among other things for violin, guitar, String Quartet, piano, cello and trombone. In addition it was sung and recorded by many opera singers like Luciano Pavarotti and choirs, but also by pop musicians like Chris Cornell.
