History[Edit]Edit

The band was founded in late 1970s when Paul Buchanan and Paul Joseph Moore after graduation met Robert Bell . They formed their own record label (Peppermint Records) and released their first single, I Love This Life. This was not a hit, but the band persevered. During the following years, they continued to write songs, including some songs that would later be heard on their debut album. When the local electronics case heard their music, this store decided to finance the recording of a demo in order to promote equipment that was sold in the store. Linn, the electronics store in question, was so excited about the result that there specially for the debut album by The Blue Nile a label was founded. The debut album, A Walk Across the rooftops, came out in 1984. The album received rave reviews but sold only moderately. One of the singles from this album, the song Tinseltown In The Rain, was a cult success and is still today the yearly high in the charts-all-times.

In 1989 the band's second album came out, Hats. Also this album was acclaimed but sales went less well than the criticisms for pins. In Great Britain the album received the twelfth position in the charts, but in theUnited States it remained sticking around the bicentennial place.

In 1993 the band worked on the successful album Diva of singer Annie Lennox. A year later, the band released at last the long-awaited sequel to Hats from: Peace at Last. A big difference with the previous albums, because the electronics was replaced by the acoustic guitar by Paul Buchanan. In the song Happiness even a gospel choir made their appearance. Despite the fact that the album on a major label was released, it sold poorly.

After a long break (eight years) in 2004 , the band released the album High out. This album seems more in terms of sound and style on Hats than its predecessor, this resulted in better criticisms than Peace at Last.in 2009, the band was raised. Singer Paul Buchanan goes further in 2012, and has now solo album "In Mid Air" was released.
