In the 1970s got Hewson the nickname "Bono Vox", as a variation on "Bona Vox" that "good voice" means. Reported to have his friendsGavin Friday (Fionan Hanvey) and Guggi (Derek Rowan) to this name inspired by "BonaVox Hearing Aids", a shop in hearing aids which is located on the O'Connell Street in the Irish city of Dublin. Over time he let "Vox" from the name and remained only "Bono" about it.Before these are final nickname was, he had already had Steinvic von Huyseman Huyseman nicknames, if, Houseman, Bon Murray and Bono Vox of O'Connell Street. This stands for Debt, Aids, Trade in Africa '. The goal of the organization is to publicize the debts of Africa, the rapid spread of aids and the unfair commercial contracts concluded. Bono has during a mission that the emphasis laid on the aids crisis in Africa also talked with president George w. Bush in the White House. Bono has launched in 2006 Product Red , which is a financial means for him to fight aids. He and his wife also give since april2005 the Fair Wear clothing label Edun , which has been set up to the principles of Fair Trade-trade. (Reverse spelling-' Nude ' Edun (nude)-is a non-profit organization and would like to use this business model responsible consumption to the "high fashion" and "catwalk" world catapult. The intention is to start laying the emphasis on "Trade" instead of "Aid".)

  • In 1985 together with Clannad Bono solo scored the hit In A Lifetime.
  • In 2005 took Bono along with Alicia Keys the number on Don't Give Up (Africa) , originally a hit by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush was from 1985 . The single was on 1 december 2005, on World Aids Day, made available as a download. The proceeds from the song went to the Aids fund.
  • In 2009 he also appeared in the film Brüno in which he along with BrünoChris MartinStingSlashSnoop Dogg and Elton John record a song for charity.
  • Bono is a big fan of Elvis Presley. He said once: "Elvis is the big bang of rock and roll." He also wrote several poems about Elvis and a he visited only and/or with his band U2 Graceland several times.
  • In 2009 Bono invested 90 million dollars in Facebook shares (2.3% of the total). After the initial public offering in 2012 were these an estimated 1.5 billion worth. As a result, Bono was at that time the richest musician in the world.
