Busted (in Netherlands known as Bust) was a British rock band. In the heyday of the band, between 2001 and 2005, was Busted from James BourneMatt Willis andCharlie Simpson.

In 2004 the band won two Brit Awards in the categories British breakthrough act and Pop act as well as a Grammy Award for their single " Thunderbirds/3 am .

The band was founded in 2000 , under the name The Termites and consisted of four members:


In March of that year the Quartet signed a contract with a professional management and a month later they changed the name in Busted. Not much later, however, Doyle and McPhail left the band. They were briefly replaced by Tom Fletcher, but 24 hours later this was replaced by Charlie Simpson. Fletcher still remained involved in the band and wrote along with Bourne some songs that appeared on both albums. After he had founded his own band (McFly) they went along as supporting act on tour of the United Kingdom (2004).

The band had now reached its end occupation and went looking for a record deal. In 2001 they had been offered a contract by Simon Cowell (juror at Pop Idol), but they had refused. In 2002 , they signed a contract with Universal Island, without drummer. They made use of guest drummers during performances and studio sessions.

The beginning[Edit]Edit

Starting from August 2002, it seriously. The band appeared on the cover of Smash Hits, a British popmagazine, and were the first rock band that appeared on the cover before they had released a single. The debut single "What I Go to School For" appeared in september 2002 and reached number 3 in the United Kingdom. Next, the debut album, "Busted", released. It scored mediocre and not higher than initially knew the 30th place.

The second single, "Year 3000" was released in January 2003 and reached the seventh place in Netherlands[1], the fifth in Belgium[1and the second in the United Kingdom.

The third single, "You Said No" was released in the spring of 2003 and knew[2in Belgium and the United Kingdom to reach the 1st place, making Guinness Hit Singles declared Busted the first band that their three debut singles got in the top 3 in reverse order. You Said No, originally released as "Crash and Burn", came in 27th place not higher than the Netherlands. [2]

The album was re-released with some new songs, and scored significantly better this time, with more than 1.2 million copies sold worldwide. Meanwhile, the band was already working on the second albumA Present for Everyone"and was a fourth single released from the debut album:"sleeping with the Light On". This did not come within in the Dutch or Belgian charts, but managed to climb to number 3 in the UK charts.

Before the new album was released, it was one single launched, called "Hurra Hurra Die Schule Brennt" ("Hurrah hurrah the School fire). This was a cover, the original text was in German. The verses in English were rewritten, the chorus remained German language. This single was only released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

A Present For Everyone[Edit]Edit

Busted won the 2003 two prizes, one in the National Music Awards (favourite newcomer) and one in Disney Channel Kids ' Awards (best band). The band then launched his new album "A Present for Everyone", with the first single "Crashed the Wedding". Crashed The Wedding came in Belgium does not go beyond the Flemish Netherlands and in the Tipparade 28th position while in England came at number 1. Also the second album would go well over 1 million units. At the end of the 2003 was Busted with the song "Year 3000" nominated for a Grammy Award (Record of the Year), but lost it to Westlife with the song "Mandy". The band announced a stadium tour for February 2004.

The year 2004 would be the last year of the band. After the stadium tour in February scored two more hits with "bandwho's David?" and "Air Hostess" who in England respectively the first and the second place in the charts. Furthermore, they both came out in Ireland. Busted also won two Brit Awards, Best British breakthrough act "and for" Best pop act ". The band then went to America and brought out an album that also bore the name "Busted", but with a different tracklist than the debut album. The band attempts to break through in the us-which failed-were recorded in the tv series "America or Busted", which was broadcast by MTV.

During their stay in America were the 3 gentlemen asked for the soundtrack of the new Thunderbirds team. The soundtrack was, along with the song "3 am" (from the album "A Present for Everyone"), released as adouble A sided single, under the name "Thunderbirds/3 am". The single would remain in England four weeks at number one. The band won a Grammy Award in the category "Record of the Year" for the single. In the Netherlands reached the 72nd position (2 weeks)[3and in Flanders the 16th position in the tipparade [3]. They released a fifth single from: "She Wants to Be Me", but this did not come in the charts correctly.Furthermore, another live album, called "A Ticket for Everyone: Busted Live", which reached the 11th position in the UK Charts. There followed a new tour, which was completely sold out. Busted was the band that most nights on end in a sold out Wembley Stadium , played 11 times.

Band Aid[Edit]Edit

At the end of 2004, the band was part of Band Aid 20, a charity band with a third re-make of the song "Do they know it's Christmas" wanted to raise money for the fight against hiv and aids in Africa, famine in Darfurand other relief efforts in other countries like Ethiopia

End[Edit]Edit

After Simpson for some time was working with another band, Fightstar, announced a tour to this band, consisting of 14 gigs in the United Kingdom. Simpson gave on 24 december 2004 by to the manager of Busted that he quit. On 13 January 2005 Busteds management organized a press conference at the Soho Hotel in London. The next day, on 14 January, it was announced that Busted ceased to exist, after a few weeks earlier Charlie Simpson from the band had stepped.

Solo Careers[Edit]Edit

Charlie Simpson remained after Busted in Fightstar. Fightstar is a post-hardcore band that one year before the end of Busted was founded, and which, by virtue of their sound is not to compare with Simpsons previous band. Fightstar one ep in 2010 and has released four albums: "Grand Unification" (2006), "One Day Son, This Will Be All Yours" (2007), "Alternate Endings" (2008) and "Be Human" (2009). The albums are both in the United Kingdom, as released in the United States. Of the three members of Busted is the career of Simpson remained the most stable and successful.

James Bourne formed a new band, Son of Dork. The music of Son of Dork was similar to that of Busted, and the band existed from 2005 to 2008, in which they released one album: "Welcome to Loserville". When the band fell apart Bourne began a solo career under the name Future Boy. In June 2008 he announced that he was working on a solo album where he said: "It is NOT a rock album, it is 100% electronic". [4In december 2008, he gave the tracklist of 11 songs free[4], and later via Twitter that the first single from the album "Karate on my Heart" would be[5]. The album is expected in May 2010. In addition to his solo career, he has written songs for, among other things, Mel C[6][7], McFly,JC Chasez[8]Patrick Monahan and the Jonas Brothers. From 2007 to 2008, he was one of the writers of the British musical/drama series Britannia High. In February 2009, Bourne via MySpace that he and Ollie Kinski and a "secret drummer" had formed a new band called Call Me When I'm 18.

Matt Willis ended up just after the end of Busted momentary in rehab, and then began a solo career. He released four singles: "Up All Night", "Hey Kid" and "Don't Let It Go to Waste" (all 2006) and a cover of "Crash" for the film Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007). All singles, with the exception of the last, appeared on his solo album "Don't Let It Go to Waste".Further, he participated in I'm a Celebrity ...Get Me Out of Here!, the UK version of Bobo's in the Bush, what he also would win. After he was away at his record company began Willis to present. As he presented the Brit Awards and together with his wife Emma Willis I'm a Celebrity ...Get Me Out of Here! and the BAFTA Awards[9]. Furthermore, he announced to have started a new band in 2009. [10]

Lawsuit[Edit]Edit

James Bourne and Matt Willis were at the beginning of 2008, their former manager Richard Rashman sued by former members Ki McPhail and Owen Doyle, who claimed that they are three of the bands biggest hits, "What I Go to School For", "sleeping With The Light On" and "Year 3000" had written, plus the song "Psycho Girl", and that paid £ 10 million to had to get royalty's for. [9according to McPhail and Doyle were forced to give up the rights and they never had money in return. [11on the fifteenth day of the case was known to Doyle and McPhail had lost the case because they were no reliable witnesses according to the Court.

Initially, Tom Fletcher (now lead singer of the band McFly) lead guitarist and singer, in addition to Bourne and Willis, but this was after 24 hours already replaced by Simpson.
