Chicago is an American band from Chicago. The band is particularly popular in America and Japan and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Biography

1967-1975

The band was created in 1967 as The Chicago Transit Authority, but by order of the real had to CTA that already after the first double LP be reduced to Chicago. On that first album four striking compositions: I'm a man (cover of the Spencer Davis Group), The Whole World Is Watching and Liberation (recorded during a demonstration) and Free form guitar (a first version of a Terry Kath's distortiongitaarsolo ). Other numbers are Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? (released as a single only in 1971), Beginnings and Questions 67 & 68.

The band initially made solid rock music in which jazz influences play a key role. The songs were sung by Terry Kath, pianist Robert Lamm and bassist Peter Cetera. In terms of popularity had Chicago in the start time stiff competition from the like-minded Blood, Sweat and Tears.

In 1972 Chicago V which appeared Saturday in the park (4th of July) in the United States a number 3-hit; the success was such that there almost twenty years later, a festival to was named.

In 1974, the band was expanded with the Brazilian percussionist Laudir de Oliveira (ex-Sergio Mendes Brazil 66). Robert Lamm took a solo album on which Peter Cetera and the Pointer Sisters their cooperation; the title track was also on the Skinny Boy at the same time released Chicago VII but with blazers. The Beach Boys are told in the song Wishing You Were Here. This went so well that both bands pulled out for a double tour; According to this concept first separately and then together they performed.

1976-1985[Edit]

In June 1976 Chicago X appeared with the hit If You Leave Me Now; This marked the beginning of a period in which there especially with ballads was scored and Peter Cetera less grew. The Brazilian-tinged singleYou Are On My Mind, written and sung by trombonist Jimmy Pankow (after Cetera, Kath and Lamm had in vain tried out), was the opening track of the corresponding tour and still part of the live repertoire.

Chicago XI In 1977 which Pankow again a number for account took. The biggest hit that produced this album, is another ballad by Cetera; Baby What A Big Surprise.

Guitarist Terry Kath was not happy with this change of course; He died on 23 January 1978 to Russian Roulette (he thought the gun was unloaded). Where Blood Sweat and Tears has gone down to the many changes of occupation, Chicago decided to continue. Kaths place was taken by guitarist Donny Dacus, rather active at Chris Hall, Stephen Stills and Roger McGuinn. The twelfth album isn't called Chicago XII, but Hot Streets. The blazers gave a guest contributor to the Bee Gees- Too Much Heaven number.

Chicago 13, appeared In 1979 that not for a change in Roman numerals is numbered. The disco number in 1994 was only a Dutch Streetplayer hit as sample in The Bomb by The Bucketheads. In 2009 rapper Pitbullused much the same sample in his summer hit I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) .

Chicago XIV from 1980 again had the Roman numerals, but the blazers are reduced to a supporting role. The record was not a success. Dacus left the band had already then in the meantime because the necessary chemistry with the rest of the band was missing.

In 1981 took Cetera a solo album on which was not promoted because the record company was afraid that he would be leaving Chicago. Its Hard To Say I'm Sorry by Chicago 16 took care at the end of 1982 again for hitsucces. By now the band was expanded with singer/pianist Bill Champlin that accounted for the numbers of Kath.

Chicago 17, appeared In May 1984 that surpassed all previous successes with the singles Stay The Night, Hard Habit To Break, you're The Inspiration and Along Comes A Woman; all sung by Peter Cetera.

After the 17-tour record a solo album again wanted Cetera; his proposal to take a break, however, was rejected and so he held it in July 1985 for seen. In 1986, he scored his first solo hit with it for the Karate Kid IIsoundtrack included Glory of Love. Cetera still occurs with solo material and Chicago hits.

1986-1991[Edit]

Chicago went ahead with Jason Scheff; This son of former Elvis Presleybassist Jerry Scheff has a similar voice as Cetera. The albums Chicago XVIII and XIX Chicago proved that the band also without Cetera know to score.

The hitverzamelaar appeared In 1989 (Chicago XX) and Chicago went on tour again after 14 years with the Beach Boys.

On the Chicago Twenty1 released in 1991 (with the new drummer Tris Imboden) joined the blazers back in the foreground, but hits were no longer scored.

2000-now[Edit]

In 2004-2005, Chicago for the first time on tour with the friendly Earth, Wind & Fire; also the ' Mighty Elements ' have recorded on the Caribou Ranch and their hit After the Love Has Gone "(from the album I Am from 1979) is written by Bill Champlin. The double concert at the Greek Theatre, Los Angeles was recorded for dvd release and following this success came a second series of joint appearances. Then it became Christmas album released Chicago XXV .

Chicago XXX In 2006 and there was a double tour with Huey Lewis & The News; Bill Champlin sang a number of songs with this band and vice versa the Lewis got in Colour My World .

On 17 June 2008, Chicago XXXII: Stone of Sisyphus released; This album was originally recorded in 1993 and had to appear in March 1994 (as Twenty 2), but eventually remained on the shelf. For the double tour of that year the band shared the stage with the poster and the Doobie Brothers.

In the summer of 2009 were Chicago and EWF again together on long path to thirty concerts to raise money for the food bank. To further support this charity, both bands recorded a single which they covered each other's work (Wishing You Were Here and Can't Let Go) and a new song played brought (You).

At the end of the tour the band held the Bill Champlin for because in an artistic Valley would have sat.

In 2010 toured Chicago (assisted by the drummer percussionist Drew Hester promoted to RAID) again with the Doobie Brothers and Robert Lamm made known that a new album will be released that would be produced by Phil Ramone .

Hits in Netherlands[Edit]

In Netherlands has had only one Chicago number one hit in both the Top 40 as the National hit parade, namely If You Leave Me Now. Chicago was not as successful in the Dutch charts . In fact, there were only three singles in the top 10; not a great feat for a world band that in 2007 forty years. There are a total of seventeen singles released in Netherlands which twelve are in the Top 40 and Tipparade came five no higher than the.

Some of thirteen albums brought out the Album Top 100, whose Chicago-The Heart Of had the most success from 1990: top position number 3 and he kept a total of 45 weeks hang from the list.

The Bomb[Edit]

Chicago was unwittingly part of a worldwide hit In 1995 by another. The New York house-dj Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez of Masters at Work used it as the basis for the Street player number plate The Bomb of Bucketheads. The song ended up in many countries high in the charts and also reached the top 10 in Netherlands. Kenny has illegally used the sample, however, and had to pay a substantial amount of money, therefore, to the members of Chicago.
