Chris Montez (born on January 17, 1943 in Los Angeles as Ezekiel Christopher Montanez) is a Mexican-American singer. He is best known for his hit song Let's dance.

Biography[Edit]Edit

Christopher Montanez was on 17 January 1943 in Los Angeles born as the youngest son in a family of 20 children and grew up in HawthorneCalifornia. Of his brothers, he learned to play guitar . In his teens he was sitting on the same high school as The Beach Boys. In that time he became a fan of Ritchie Valens. That inspired him to record to record. So appeared in 1960 Montez ' first new single she's my rockin' baby. Published in 1962 by the All you had to do was tell me is Montez slowly becoming known in Los Angeles, but later that year his big break with Let's dance. At the age of 19, he scored his first and biggest hit in the United States (# 4) and grows into arock and rollklassieker. The same year will follow Some kinda fun, but he knows with this single nowhere near its previous success to match. When both numbers are top 10 hits in England , decides to go on tour there Montez. The Beatles (at the time known only by their first hit Love me do) were in his support act. Although the contact with The Beatles good expired, ran it once out of control between John Lennon and Chris Montez. John Lennon had a glass of beer over the head of Montez, after which Montez with Lennon began to fight. Tommy Roe, who was then also on tour, took them apart.

When Chris Montez returned to America, its popularity considerably decreased. That made him decide to go back to school. He studied music, but he was advised not to go further in the music. Montez, however, got offered a contract by producer Herb Alpert. At first he refused, but later he signed the contract anyway. Herb Alpert wanted him by rock and roll formula. Although Montez was not keen on the idea, agreed. It earned him in 1966 and 1967 five us hits, of which Call me and The more I see youwere the largest. The more I see you was also a modest hit in Netherlands. In America, are the his last hits.

Chris Montez In 1972 made a comeback in Europe with some Spanish-and English-language songs. This earned him some hits in GermanyAustriaNetherlands and Flanders. His biggest hit was Ay no digas from 1973, that in Netherlands to # 3 came in the top 40 and in Flanders to # 7 in the top 30. In Austria it became even a number one hit. Although this single was not a hit in England, was re-released there are debuuthit Let's dance , which earned him a tenth place in that country. Also when it there for the third time in 1979 was released, it became a modest hit. Then Chris Montez is no longer in the hit parade returned. In 1983 , he released another album with Spanish songs but that knew no pots to break. Currently still in the golden oldiescircuit Montez performs.
