Artist: Stan Freberg

Album: "Christmas Dragnet" 7" single/Tip Of The Freberg box set

Appears On (Mixes): The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates

Song Notes:This one's a bit funnier but less biting. Where "Green Chri$tma$" has a much more serious bent, this one is just pure comedy, and, well, it is HILARIOUS. This actually might have been my first exposure to Stan Freberg that I knew about (see, even if you don't know Stan Freberg, believe me, you KNOW Stan Freberg; he's done loads of cartoon voices, including Pete Puma, Tosh from the Goofy Gophers, and most of the voices in "The Three Little Bops", all from the Looney Tunes cartoons, Cecil from Beany & Cecil, Papa Boolie from The Weird Al Show, and a bunch of other voices in many of the original Disney films. If, by some flue, you've never seen any of those, he's also done LOADS of commericals, including—and I'll be shocked if you don't remember these—the Encyclopaedia Brittanica ads with the Kid Who Had A Report Due On Space (Stan was the announcer/writer/creator of the spots; Donavan Freberg, his son, was the KWHARDOS.) -- I heard it on a local novelty radio show, and was basically floored by how GOOD this was. The phrase "Most folks call them green onions, but they're really scallions" was instantly hard-welded into my vocabulary. Anyway, you'll probably recognize some of the other voices on here—his frequent collaborator was the brilliant voice actor Daws Butler, and between him and Stan, basically perform everything on this record. - Rev.
