Review
Home Video is a production duo from New York via New Orleans, whose music seems to manifest the two contrasting cultures; New Orleans, with its roots in dark witchcraft, like voodoo, and anything-goes hedonism, and New York, with its underground club scene and party zombies that live for nothing except a damn good time. The Citizen EP, only their second release, combines the elements of electronica, pop and the throbbing rave scene; and they do it with that same somber mood that plagues bands like Interpol, New Order and the Smashing Pumpkins. Everything is completely danceable, but also very subtle and dark. With only one earlier LP on the resume, being on WARP records, the respected European label that has brought us similar acts like Boards of Canada, Two Lone Swordsman and Prefuse 73, is definitely something you should note. Usually looped and layered, the vocals give the album an organic feel, and more accessible to people who may not be into straight up electronica. Every song is solid and if you are into any of the bands I have listed, you should dig it. Michael Ardaiolo
