ReviewEdit

"Conductor" is an album by a Chapel Hill quintet, but the reality here is that the songs revolve entirely around foreman Andy Herod's two-year relationship with "Dawson's Creek" star Michelle Williams... If only through elaborate robotic imagery (as evidenced by the notable bonus DVD and album art). If the melodies don't grab you through eight tracks (and there's every reason they should), Oh God will open your eyes as the album's true "it" moment: Herod transforms an acoustic ballad into a sensational Appleseed Cast-like shoegazing drone-jam, then back to an acoustic ballad for Falling. Brilliant all-around even if it is trying to sound a little more DIY than it actually is. Must be that Transatlanticism-syndrome making the rounds. - Patrick Masterson
