Dalida (Cairo, 17 January 1933 - Paris, 3 may 1987), pseudonym of Yolanda Christina Gigliotti, was an Egyptian-French singer and actress of Italian descent. With more than 125 million records sold, she is one of France's most successful artists ever.

Biography[Edit][]
In 1954 was Yolanda Christina Gigliotti Miss Egypt, and on her twenty-first she left for France for a career as a singer and actress. She called herself when Dalila, the woman from the Bible. In Paris she changed that on the advice of Eddie Barclay in Dalida. They broke through with an Italian tinted repertoire, and cultivated her ' exotic ' feel with a big bunch of black curls and dark rimmed eyes. In 1957 she had a monster hit with the song Bambino in France that led no less than 39 weeks on chart. Only at the end of the 1960s she recorded her typical, blonde hairstyle. At the beginning of the 1970s deepened her repertoire by Léo Ferré 's work and to record Jacques Brel .
"Gigi l'Amoroso", with the Sung tale of a Neapolitan Heartthrob who after a failed adventure in Hollywood returns to his native village, she had her biggest hit. Then she decided, on the advice of her brother Orlando, who was also her manager, to focus on the emerging disco. With "J'attendrai", a cover of a chanson from the thirties, she had the first French disco hit. This was followed by the disco-successor of "Gigi l'Amoroso", "Gigi in Para disco" in which Gigi after his death in heaven sings in English.Also the song "Darla Dirladada" became a huge hit internationally in 1970 . They many singles and albums sold worldwide, especially in Italy, France, Belgium,Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Egypt, the Middle East and Japan she was wildly popular.
In the 1980s, eye trouble, which forced her out of her youth was descended, to several operations that brought little improvement. They saw less and less with her left eye, and looked often squint. Also the relationships with men were few happy. Three men with whom she had a long-lasting, but very intimate relationship or not maintained, committed suicide, including Luigi Tenco and Lucien Morisse.
They still played in a movie called "the sixth day", for which she returned to Egypt. Tired of all the problems she made on the night of 2 on 3 may 1987 using pills in Parisan end to her life. They left a note with the words: «la vie» pardonnez-moi m'est insupportable, (life is unbearable for me, forgive me). After her death the Dalida was a great example for the new generation of singers. Dalida together with Édith Piaf is considered the most popular and most influential French singer from the 20th century.

Several years after her death was under great interest the "Place Dalida" solemnly inaugurated in Paris (18th arrondissement), close to her former home in the District ofMontmartre and close to Place du Tertre. On the square is a bronze bust of Dalida. It is the only image in Montmartre of an artist. Dalida is buried In the same district, namely on Montmartre cemetery, where many famous people are.

- Dalida became known again in Netherlands when Mart Smeets Evening stagein its program, on the Tour de France, the song "Buenas Noches Mi Amor" (1957) began to turn to end its program.
