David Bowie, born David Robert Jones on 8th January, 1947, was a singer/songwriter and musician from Brixton, England. He was famous for his change of image over the years and his distinctive voice. He was one of the most successful and influential artists in modern music, with a career spanning over five decades and 140 million records sold worldwide. His most successful singles include Heroes, which is now considered among the greatest songs of all time.[1][2]

Artists such as Lady GaGa, Trent Reznor, Blur and Pixies have all credited Bowie as an influence, with some of the artists even making references to him in songs and videos (For example, Lady GaGa's Ziggy Stardust-style marking she had in her video for "Just Dance").

BiographyEdit

David Bowie was known for changing his persona every few albums. He's been Ziggy Stardust and The Thin White Duke, among other, nameless-but-still-different personas. Similarly, his music changed as well; sometimes he was ahead of the curve, and other times he was mirroring other popular culture at the time. During the 1980s, he had some Pop records that made him an even bigger star in the US, although most people consider his glory days to be in the 1970s (his 2002 album Heathen is also very well regarded). He also did much in the way of visual art and acting in films.
