Artist: David Bowie
Album: 1. Outside
Appears On (Mixes): Dub Club: Aren't You Going To Wish Me Happy Birthday? - Matt
Song Notes: This version wasn't actually on the album, but rather, the single, and the Best Of Bowie DVD comp (and probably some of the CD versions, too, I don't know). I think it's much superior to the album version (which is pretty good), thanks to the addition of the Pet Shop Boys doing the chorus (as well as additional production). Outside was the reunion of sorts between David Bowie and Brian Eno (they were still friends and everything, they just hadn't worked together for a long time), and it's a bit meandery, but it's still pretty good. The linking tracks are kinda bad, though, as Bowie goes into some really atrocious accents that, well, you have to wonder why he thought they were a good idea, but, hey. Apparently, the story is lost a bit from the original tapes, as so much had to be edited down and apparently the record company balked at some aspects of it, I guess. It seems it would have been better if the entire story part had been chucked, and it was just a loosely-themed collection of songs, but hey. Whatever. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
