Genre DescriptionEdit

Downtempo is a form of electronica that features less than 118 BPM, though different than Ambient, as it typically places a stronger emphasis on melody than ambient does. It is based around the rhythm, usually programmed and often consisting of loops that have been slowed down in both tempo and pitch. Downtempo can encompass other genres of electronica, including trip-hop and acid jazz. Sometimes it is also lumped together with IDM, though IDM can get much, much higher in terms of BPM. (I suppose, for that matter, so can trip-hop and acid jazz).
