Artist: Wall Of Voodoo

Album: Index Masters

Appears On: The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates

Song Notes: To celebrate the news that Rykodisc is reissuing and remastering Index Masters by Wall Of Voodoo, I figured I'd throw up a couple cuts from that record. The CD is a compilation of their original self-titled EP along with a bunch of live tracks; these are from the live part of the disc, and they're pretty cool really. One of the things I liked about Wall Of Voodoo, and I think you'll hear that here, is how they'd use both a drum machine and a live percussionist; the drum machine provided danceable beats, while the live percussionist provided hyper-complex drum parts that made the music really interesting to listen to. One of those Best Of Both Worlds situations. The studio version of "Back In Flesh" appeared on Dark Continent, and from what I can tell, "End of an Era" wasn't otherwise released, which is odd, as it's a damn good song. These live performances are taken from a 1979 concert at the Hong Kong Cafe in LA. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
