[edit] Biography
Enigma was started in 1985 as an independent label. It grew rather large, thanks to its distribution deal with EMI. It developed the subsidiary Restless, which ended up spinning off into its own company. In 1989, EMI bought Enigma, and the spun-off Restless acquired a lot of the Enigma back catalog. Before its purchase, Enigma was also the US distributor for Mute.
