[edit] Genre Description

Exotica is a genre of music popular mostly in the 1950s and 1960s that was a form of Jazz/Pop/Easy Listening/Whatever You Want To Call It that would often favor studio experimentation and polynesian sounds. Often there would be lots of percussion, and somewhat of a space-age sound. Sometimes it's lumped in with "Space Age Bachelor Pad Music", but that's not quite right -- space age would typically feature more electronics, and less in the way of samples like bird-calls or chanting. In this way, Esquivel might not be considered a true exotica artist.
