Mark Knopfler OBE (Glasgow, August 12, 1949) is a Scottish singer and guitarist. He was best known as the frontman of the British rock band Dire Straits.
His famous guitar playing seems to be a cross between the trippy sound of The Shadows Hank Marvin 's and the fingerpickingspel of J.J. Cale. The low nose voice of Knopfler evokes memories of Bob Dylan and J.J. Cale.
