Stuart Sutcliffe was a Scottish artist, musician, and original bass player of the Beatles before Paul McCartney. He and John Lennon are credited for coming up with the name of the band. He was born in the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavilion Hospital in Edenburgh, Scotland. He had two younger sisters, Pauline and Joyce. After the Beatles' trip to Germany, he decided to go back and leave the group in 1961 after meeting Astrid Kirchherr, a German photographer to whom he later was engaged. In Germany, Sutcliffe started experiencing severe headaches and sensitivity to light. In 1962, he collapsed in the middle of an art class. He was taken to a hospital, but died due to an aneurysm.
