The Cult is an British rock band that was formed in 1984 in Northern England. Major inspiration behind the band was Ian Astbury, who a few years before that The Southern Death Cult had help form.

Genesis[Edit][]

Although the Group began, reasonably successful Astbury decided to leave the band and started along with the of Theatre of Hate -based guitarist Billy Duffy Death Cult.Because they felt that the word "Death" them too much would associate with Gothic they went further in 1984 as The Cult. When also began their successful period. The spicy music and the song texts of Astbury showing his admiration for the American Indians spoke (in his youth, he spent some time in Canada), provided a unique combination that The Cult England as rock country back on the map. Throughout the rest of the 80 's the Group remained extremely popular, although the composition of the Group changed very frequently. Two milestones were Love their albums (1985) and Sonic Temple (1989).

The singles Edie and She Sells Sanctuary (both from the 1980s) are still annually in various end-of-year charts. In the 2013 Edition of the latter came Top 2000 at number 293.

After The Cult at the beginning of the 1990s had some time interrupted her career she managed not to regain the old popularity. In 1992 the group still took out the anger of Pinkpop-Organizer Jane Smith on the neck by pressing the Pinkpop-Monday until after midnight. This was totally against the agreements reached in. In 1995 the group members decided The Cult. However, this proved to be not final: in 2001 brought Duffy together with bassist Billy Morrison and Astbury/ex-Guns 'n' Roses drummer Matt Sorum as The Cult released a new album, Beyond Good and Evil. Although there was no sign of the rebirth, artistic appreciation was not commercially unsuccessful. Still the individual members. Ian Astbury was lead singer of The Doors of the 21st Century in which he along with some remaining Doors members from 2004 to 2007 a world-tour. At the end of this tour has also done some gigs in 2006 The Cult. In mid-2006, John Tempesta strengthen the band as drummer and drum technician.

In January 2007, Ian Astbury announced that he get out The Doors of the 21st Century to revive to The Cult. Not long after was also known that there would come a new Cult album. On 2 October 2007 was Born Into This .

On 22 may 2012 Choice of Weapon is the new album appeared. [1]
