Freda Charcilia Payne (Detroitseptember 19, 1942) is an American singer and actress. She is the older sister of Scherrie Payne of the Supremes.

Freda Payne began her singing and acting career in 1963. Her international breakthrough came in 1970 with her Band of Goldmiljoenenhit in Netherlands and Belgium, which also was a success. She was the figurehead of the Invictus record label that was founded by Brian HollandLamont Dozier and Eddie Holland. These songwriters and producers had left the label Motown to become self-employed. Because they are the artists she had achieved great successes for Motown (including The Supremesand the Four Tops , Martha and The Vandellas), they were not allowed to take, inter alia, the sisters Payne, they still knew from school. After Band of GoldFreda still had a number of hits for Invictus, whose targeted against the Viet Nam war protest song Bring the Boys Home again earned a millions of sales. In 1973 she left the now ailing label and recorded for other labels, but the commercial success was no longer as great as with Invictus. They, however, remained popular as a very versatile artist, has performed in musicals and movies and presented a talk show on TV. They still occurs, sometimes with her sister, Scherrie Payne, and took in 2011Saving a Life on the duet with Cliff Richard for his album Soulicious.
