The first Bonzo Dog Band album (and the only released under the full version of their name) is much closer to the pseudo-vaudeville style of the early era. After this album, they drifted to a more pop style, albeit a dada-inspired Zappa-esque (though much lighter and friendlier) pop style. Even though this is the most straight comedy/novelty Bonzo Dog Band album, it's a great one and a really fun record. Lots of stories (Big Shot and Death Cab For Cutie, which, yes, did inspire the name of the band), singalongs (Jollity Farm), classic novelty (Mickey's Son And Daughter) and just silly songs (I'm Bored, Look Out, There's A Monster Coming, Cool Brittania). For folks who like the poppier Bonzos sound, you may want to stay away from this one... but you'd be doing yourself a great disservice, as it's a great album anyway. If you're a fan of the goofier stuff, you probably already have this one and it's probably your favorite Bonzos record. A very strong debut disc. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
