Heaven 17 is a synthpopband from the English Sheffield. The trio consists of Martyn Ware , Ian Craig Marsh (keyboards) (keyboards) and Glenn Gregory (vocals). The Group had its heyday at the beginning of the 80 's.
Ware and Marsh left in 1980 to The Human League under the name British Electric Foundation (B.E.F.) become self-employed. After putting on lead singer Glenn Gregory called the trio Heaven 17, based on the novel itself A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, in which a band with this name. If producers continued to use the name B.E.F. true and Marsh. Along with The Human League, who went with another occupation, they were the pioneers of the use of the drum machine in pop and they developed the danceable synthpop that one of the trends within the new wave would be.
The first lp was Penthouse & Pavement (1981) (14 in the UK Album Chart), containing the hits (UK) We don't need this fascist groove thing and the club hit The height of the fighting (also known as He-La-Hu). The only single that reached the charts in Netherlands, Temptation, was taken from the second album, The Luxury Gap (1983). In 1992 pulled out a remix version again the charts. Carol Kenyon is to hear as a guest singer. The third album, How Men Are (1984), yielded three singles, of which the last ...(And that's No Lie), even in England the charts no longer took out, but in three weeks in the Netherlands in early 1985 still Delightful 15 stood.
Although most of the band's music was recorded in the 1980s, they are since then, starting from 1997, been back together occasionally and appeared there in 2005 and 2008 new albums.
Many of the lyrics by Heaven 17 show a commitment oriented see left. The first single from the group, We don't need this fascist groove thing, was boycotted by BBC Radio 1 , because the text would defame the American president Ronald Reagan .
