Adem’s Homesongs is the album you listen to on those rainy Sunday mornings, perfectly fit for staring at the ceiling and falling in and out of consciousness. Originally the bass player for the British post-rock trio, Fridge, Adem Illhan has struck out on his own much like fellow band-mate Kieran Hebden (Four Tet). The result is an introspective and earnest record that remains down-tempo and quiet, yet keeps the audience’s attention with its innovative song structure and instrumentation. Manned with an acoustic guitar, a banjo, and a room full of percussive toys, Adem’s songs use a wide array of sounds without once overloading for the sake of catching attention. The vocals are arranged and sang in an Americana, folksy sort of way, even though Adem’s voice still some how retains its innate English accent. A solid debut album to say the least, and it should definitely catch the attention of fans of quiet indie, Americana, folk, country and creative singer/songwriters. Michael Ardaiolo
