History[Edit]Edit

The song was written by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. His version from 1956 , however, was not popular enough to end up in the charts . One of the first covers was that of Nina Simone, which it did considerably better in sales; number 23 in the Us BillBoard R & B-list and number 49 in the United Kingdom. In 1966 Alan Price did that again ultimately with number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 9 in the English list. Alan Price pulled out with the song the eleventh position in the Dutch Top 40.

In 1972 came than the (in Netherlands) best known version by Creedence Clearwater Revival. This removed all in 1968 "only" the 58th place in the United States, but three weeks in Netherlands in 1972 stood in third place. The b-side consisted of two tracks: Molina (from album Pendulum) and Fortunate Son. John Fogerty (vocals, guitar), Tom Fogerty (guitar); Stu Cook (bass), and Doug Clifford (drums) played a pure guitar version, which the agreements swings well lets hear it.

Top40[Edit]Edit

Alan Price and CCR sang the the Top40 in, but in 1978 it became a hit again in the version of Dee Dee (Anna Dekkers; later in Vulcano), disco with a 16th place three times. B-side is Do your loving right; both for Loving You. In 1993 Bryan Ferry still had a small success. In 1998, Sonique another attempt but failed. In 2010 Shane MacGowan took it on to raise money for the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. There played a number of celebrities, such as Chrissie HyndeNick Cave and Johnny Depp (on guitar). The obtained the Top40 not. Incidentally, there is a whole slew of artists with the song lists are not pulled out or put on their only album; one of the last in the Netherlands was very famous Katie Melua. This also applies to The Animals, the Alan Price in 1965 where Group had stepped out. The song can be found on the album Animalism (1966).
