This was the teaser EP for The Spine, and like I said before, I'm working on figuring out how to transfer over the big long essay I wrote about that album, this EP and the sister EP The Spine Surfs Alone. Like I mentioned before, I would have preferred they just released one hour-long album instead of 3 kind of expensive releases, of one LP and two EPs, but whatever. The artwork on this one is pretty good, so that's cool, I guess. I love "Am I Awake" and "Memo To Human Resources". I've always been sorta iffy on "Au Contraire" (which appears in a slightly different mix on here), and the last two tracks were recorded with "TMBG's Other Thing", a new horn section. I prefer the old version of "Ant" (I don't like the added riff on "Hail To The Chief" in there after the "president" line...), but this version of The Beach Boys' "Caroline, No" is exquisite. Since this didn't turn out to be on The Spine, even though it should have been, you should still get this EP—it's surprisingly strong. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
There is a school of thought that believes the Industructable Object EP only exists to confound it's listeners as to why the band would leave such an incredibly strong song as "Am I Awake?" off of their tenth album. This is unfortunately the only place to get that song, and coupled with the amusing Beach Boys cover at the end, makes it sort of worth the five bucks. --72.224.182.201
