Biography
Edit
One of the bigger subsidiaries of a major label, Interscope was started in 1990 as part of Atlantic records. Their earlier releases tended to be of the artier, less commericially viable artists that would get picked up by majors partially out of prestige and partially in hopes that they might end up having a fluke hit. Over time, though, they tended, like most major labels did, to go to the more straight pop stuff and more of proven acts. In 1998, via a merger with its parent company, Interscope swallowed up PolyGram, Geffen and A&M.
