Artist: The Residents
Album: Stars And Hank Forever
Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium
Song Notes: The Residents added some back story and a lot of darkness to their cover of Hank Williams, Sr.'s rather upbeat song. This was on the Stars And Hank Forever album, part two of the American Composer Series, made up of compositions by Williams and John Philip Sousa (the first was George and James, split between George Gershwin and James Brown). The original plan was to do one a year for 20 years, but raised royalty rates based on the new CD format made the project too expensive (and the project was originally made for the LP format; each side of the record was a different composer, which didn't work as well with the CD format). Every so often, the Residents will make rumblings that they might continue the American Composer Series someday, but, then again, they've also said that someday they'll go back to The Mole Trilogy, too. - Rev.
