Jona Lewie, born as John Lewis, (Southampton14 March 1947) is a British singersongwriter and musician.

Lewis started in the music industry as a session pianist. In the late 1960s he formed the Brett Marvin and the Thunderboltscultpubrockband. The Group was for some years a popular live band, but their only mainstreamhit single was Seaside Shuffle (1972), released under the name of Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs. The hit is very much like In The Summertime Mungo Jerry's high scoring from 1970 and reached number 2 in the Uk single chart and number 16 in the Veronica Top 40.

It seemed that Lewis would be a one-hit wonder , until he in 1977, contracted by Stiff Records (first single: Come away). He had a solo hit with the synthpopnummer you'll Always Find Me in the Kitchen at Parties (1980). His next single, Big Shot-Momentarily, made no impression, but then he had his biggest (and to date, last) worldwide hit with Stop The Cavalry. It's still one of the most played Christmas songs, though it was initially not intended for number. Stop The Cavalry contains only one sentence that refers to the feast; This sentence had Lewis added at the last moment when he realized that the single would be released in november.
