Joscelyn Eve Stoker [1(born on 11 april 1987), better known by her stage name Joss Stonesoul-is a English R & B, and bluessingersongwriter and actress. Stone was famous after the release of her platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions. In 2004, its no. 1 album, Mind Body & Soul issued. The album and its lead single "You Had Me" were nominated for a Grammy Awardin 2005. That year, Stone also a nomination for "best new artist". She was in England in 2004 as one of the most promising acts of 2004. [2her third studio album, Introducing Joss Stone, from 2007, was the second highest debut ever for a British female solo artist in the Billboard 200.

In 2009 she released her album Colour Me Free! from. LP1followed In 2011. Both, they reached the top 10 in America. In 2011, they also part of the SuperHeavy band , including Mick Jagger.

Joss Stone was born in Dover, in Kent (in the United Kingdom). She spent her teenage years in Ashill in Devon. She is the third of the four children of Richard and Wendy Stoker. She did her first appearance at the Uffculme Comprehensive School, in Uffculme in Devon. They sang a cover of Jackie Wilson's "Reet Petite" from 1957. Because of her dyslexia stopped Stone with her school at the age of 16, with three Gcsequalifications. "I wasn't so stupid. I'm just a bit dyslexic and I was not a very good student. I'm more artistic ", she said.

Stone grew up listening to a wide variety of music, including American R & B and soul singers such as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. As a result, she developed a musical style in the genre soul. In 2001, when she was thirteen, she came into the show Star for a Night by the BBC. She sang ' On the Radio ' by Donna Summer from 1979, and won. To MTV told them: "I am of clicked into soul music more than anything else because of the vocals. You should have a good voice to sing soul music and I have liked since I am small ".

In 2002 she decided to audition for S-Curve in New York. They also closed a deal with BMG in the United Kingdom. Since then she has performed with artists such as Blondie and Gladys Knight.

After she had signed for S-Curve, Stone flew to MiamiFlorida in the United States to start working on her debut album, The Soul Sessions. The Soul Sessions was released on 16 september 2003. She has worked with people such as Betty Wright, Benny Latimore, Little Beaver and Willie Thomas ' Bishnupriya ' Hale. Also she performed with Angie Stone and The Roots.

The album consists of covers of soul songs by Wright, Franklin, Laura Lee, Bettye Swann. When it was released at the end of 2003, it came in the top five of the UK albums chart and also in the Top 40 of the u.s.Billboard 200 . The single Fell in love with a boy " was a cover of Fell in Love With a Girl of the The White Stripes from 2001. He came in the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. The second single, Super duper love, which is a cover of Sugar Billy's 1974 Super Duper Love, also came in the Top 20.

After achieving critical acclaim with The Soul Sessions, Stone recorded her second album Mind, Body and Soul was released on 28 september 2004. Itself is her real debut album the songs of this album, because they largely itself has written. "I find that I sing much better on this album", she says. It was a bigger success than her previous album, as it debuted in the number one in the UK albums chart, a record previously held by Avril Lavigne. The album just came not in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, it came that is at its highest at number 11. You Had Me the single became her first top 10 hit in the United Kingdom. This was also a hit worldwide. The singles that came afterwards, Right to be wrong and Spoiled both came in the Top 40. Don't cha wanna ride even came in the Top 20. "Spoiled" just came out of the Top 50 of the Hot R & B/Hip-Hop Songs, it came at number 54.

Stone began working on her third studio album, Introducing Joss Stone, in the Compass Point Studios in Nassau on the Bahamas in May 2006. It was released on 12 March 2007 in the United Kingdom by Virgin.Stone has worked with Raphael Saadiq and collaborations with Lauryn HillCommon , and Joi. Stone describes it as "really who I am. So I call it Introducing Joss Stone. These are my texts and this is who I am as an artist ". She also said that her breakup with Beau Dozier was a source of inspiration while she was writing Introducing Joss Stone .

The album debuted at number 12 in the UK albums charts. It also came in at number two on the Billboard 200. There were 118,000 CDs sold in the first week. The album was thereby the highest debut for a British solo singer in the charts of the USA. It passed the record set by Amy Winehouse with Back To Black. Since the release of the album there are over 60,000 CDs sold in the United Kingdom. It got a silver status in the charts.

"Tell me ' bout it debuted at number 28 in the UK Singles Charts. It stood there for three weeks, it came only at number 83 in the u.s. Billboard Hot 100 . The second single, "Tell Me What we're Gonna Do Now" came in the Top 65 in the U.S. Hot R & B/Hip-Hop Songs.

On 3 december 2007 became the third single from the album, Introducing Joss Stone Baby Baby Babyreleased:. The single could be downloaded on iTunes from december 23, and from 30 december from other webshops. On 14 January 2008 the single could be bought in stores. In addition to the single Baby Baby Baby , there is also a version of the digital download single L-O-V-E on.

Joss Stone announced in 2009 in an interview on the American Billboard website a new album. This album is called "Color Me Free" and was released October 20, 2009. The album was delayed several times: in april and July.

On May 31, 2009 came the news that EMI to the courtroom steps, because Stone would have committed a breach of contract. In 2007 she had with EMI agreed to the album before 31 January 2008 to have. However, this would not be the case, all claims for itself that the album that time though Stone was finished. Stone has EMI offered £ 2 million earlier so she could leave because Stone and her record company according to Stone no longer could work together. In the amount of £ 2 million is £ 800,000 in damages for Colour Me Free. EMI has refused the offer, and so stepped into the courtroom. At the moment it is not known what this lawsuit means before the release of Colour Me Free, and for Joss ' contract with EMI.

Stone held a series of concerts In March in the United Kingdom, and new songs during those concerts she has already heard. Also the song "Governmentalist", that Stone was released and that was about president Bush in England-2008-(and it was not for the United States presidential election, released) is on the new album. In the summer, she has done a tour in Europe, including in Netherlands on July 2, 2009, in Dam square. On 1 February 2010 , she stood in Paradiso.

In August 2010 , it was announced that Stone no longer plays for EMI, but that she has her own record label, Stone'd Records, has created. In december 2010 was also announced that a greatest hits album will be released under the name "Super Duper Hits: The Best of Joss Stone". 26 July 2011 Stone'd Records brings Joss ' first album, LP1in-house, via Suburban Records from. [5This album was produced by Dave Stewart.

In July 2005, Stone sang the song "What Ever Happened To The Heroes", for the movie Fantastic Four. It was written by Pink, Billyman and Christopher Rojas and produced by Beau Dozier shortly before their break-up, in november of that year.

Stone did a version of "it's a man's man's man's World" and "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag", with "the King of the James Brown soul music", in the talk show, Friday Night with Jonathan Rosson the BBC 1, on 1 July2005. She sang on 8 september 2005 a duet with Rob Thomas, the song "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", that is a cover of Stevie Nicks from 1981. On 5 February 2006, Stone did along with Stevie WonderIndia Arie and John Legend a medley of wonder's hits. Three days later, on 8 February, on the night of the 2006 Grammy Awards , she sang a medley, but now by Sly & the Family Stone, along with Legend, CiaraMaroon 5Will.i.am, Robert Randolph, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

Stone collaborated with jazzpianist Herbie Hancock and bluessinger Jonny Lang for a cover of "When Love Comes to Town, by U2 from 1988. This song came on the album "Possibilities of Hancock, from 2005. In the same year Stone also sang on the song "Cry Baby Cry" along with Sean Paul and Santana and worked with Patti LaBelle to the song "Stir It Up", for the Disneyfilm "Chicken Little". "I first heard her before I saw her, and I said, ' where does that black chick come from? ' They sounded like a black chick! No, no, not a maid-a black woman ", said LaBelle about Stone. Stone also came on the album "The Truth About Love" by Lemar, with the song Anniversary.

Joss Stone sings along on the song "Just One Kiss", which appeared on the album "The Way I See It" by Raphael Saadiq. Raphael Saadiq had helped her at the album "Introducing Joss Stone".

On 17 October 2008 , a new song from Stone that brought "Governmentalist" is called. The song is about the elections of America in 2008. The song is mainly about the ' defects ' of the Government, such as the war in Iraq. In a verse is sung there: "You think more than you do», it means:"you think more than what you actually do", which means that there are many ideas are in the White House, but that there are not many of those ideas really be carried out. And in the bridge is sung: "How many lives will you sacrifice, will you ever be satisfied?", which means: "how many lives will you ever sacrifice, you will ever be satisfied?", this probably goes over the war in Iraq.

On 27 december 2008 , Stone spent a Christmas song that "The Anti-Christmas Carol" is called. In the song sings Stone that she is happy is that Christmas comes but once a year for. The song can be downloaded for free from Stones site.

Attention in the media[Edit]Edit

In 2005 was Stone spokeswoman for Gap, they replacing actress Sarah Jessica Parker. She took two commercials, one in which they sang a cover of "Night Time Is the Right Time" by Ray Charles from 1958, and one in which they sang a cover of "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys from 1966. By the time of that last advertising went there rumors around that she was fired because she went out with Beau Dozier (son of producer and composer Lamont Dozier), who was then 25 years old. She was only 17 years old when. Gap denied those rumors however, they said they were very happy with Stone and against the BBC Radio 1 they said that the rumors were totally fabricated.

In March 2008, Stone Stefanie Heinzmann 's role in the upcoming British romantic comedy Snappers in itself, in which she had a lesbian kiss. "I just wanted to challenge myself. There are things in the movie that really force me to look up my limits and I like that! I can also confirm that there is a long tongue Kiss in will be, but not with a guy is!
