Klein Orkest was a Dutch musical group, founded in 1978. Small Orchestra stemmed from a failed cabaret show, large Orchestra, and performed at first mainly on at squatters events. The texts were written by Harrie Jekkers and Chose Macdonald. Harrie Jekkers had under the pseudonym Harry Klorkestein (an anagram of small Orchestra) the hit O O Den Haag. The Group held to exist in 1985 .
In addition to work for adults, produced small Orchestra also a cd with children's songs, Escalator to the Moon. For this album received a small Orchestra in 1986 inEdison. Some songs from the album were also performed in appearances on Sesame Street.
A group of ten people working in 1977 to a cabaret show under the working title The large Orchestra. The program does not come from the ground and the four musicians unite in the band The small Orchestra. The foursome has above all success in squatters circles. Utrecht is at the end of the 1970s the scene of a battle for the stages. The Tivoli-song is one of the fight songs of activists. It is written in 1979, after a fire in Tivoli.
In 1982, the first single released: Let me but only. Also one makes a Hague outing with O O Den Haag. This number appears under the name Harry Klorkestein, the surname is an anagram of small Orchestra. Jacobs is responsible for the vocals on the single and wrote the song for presenter Cees Grimbergen, after that was rejected by the VARA because he talked to Hague . On television and at performances throws soundman Henny de Jong himself up as Klorkestein.
Symbion appears in 1983 with a second hit single by The small Orchestra. The number know to attract attention by the bold textual topic (such as those political mafia that Hague keeps cuts in the minimums, well let them yourself but pay, because Koos is nothing to get. Sorry that I exist!). The song is released in 1984 on the Wall . It was written at the height of the Hollanditis, literally on the eve of the great peace demonstration on 29 October 1983 on the Malieveld in the Hague. The song was the biggest hit for small Orchestra and six years later appears (if the Berlin wall falls) in view of current events again.
In 1985 runs small Orchestra apart. The band is doing on september 8, his last performance. Jekkers focuses then on the Theatre and also makes solo records. Nabil formed a new band, Hard Smart (later shortened to Smart). He is also active in the editing of the Radio 3 programme Leidsekade Live! of the KRO.
