History[Edit]Edit

The idea for the song came from music producer Jerry Love. Love and Sawyer had just left A & M Records . It struck Love on that in the years 70 in particular, thenightclubs Studio 54 group singing plate was made with terms like Oh-Ah etc. on the disco rhythms. It would stimulate the participation of the visitors. He thought it was a good idea to create a song based on that moans and switched Michael Zager in. Who saw nothing in there at first, but came along with Alvin Fields to the following two lines of text:

  • Ah-ah, eh-eh, let's all chant
  • Your body, my body, everybody work your body

To top it all to give some more content, wrote Sawyer a classical intermezzo with piccolo trumpet, but he had a lot of confidence. Only when the song was included in the Secret Sound Studio in Manhattan also saw Sawyer the result: I'm gonna kill you if this isn't a hit! Against Fields.

Versions[Edit]Edit

The group released two versions on the market. The 7 "single took out time wise just 3: 04 (b-side 2: 50). The 12 "single gave more with 7: 03 (and 7: 01).

Sequel[Edit]Edit

It became a hit all over the world and became thereby also included in other art forms. It was featured in the movies, for example, Eyes of Laura Mars (1978) (and later movies tracing back on the 70 's, such as The Last Days of Disco (1998). The television also showed moving along. It was told in various broadcasts of Top of the Pops, which for lack of a real band Legs & co. the number indanste. Even in one of the episodes of Derrick (1978, season 5, Episode 12, Ute und Manuela) was to listen to. During the years came there was the song covers and sampled, but the first success was never repeated. For Belgium is only the version of DJ Gusto still of importance.

Chart Positions[Edit]Edit

Love and Sawyer got right. Even though it is nowhere a number-1 hit was, ended up over time in so what each hit parade that was there to be found. By the fame it became a style icon (within the disco) of those years. Sawyer thought at first that it would be an average hit. In 1979, there were more than 3,000,000 copies the counter proceeded, but then continued the sales continue. It is estimated that the sales increased to about 5,000,000 copies.

B side Love express took out besides a number 1 position in the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs-list.

In Belgium it became from the number-one position deducted by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John with their you're the one that I want.
