BiographyEdit

Liberty Records was founded in 1955, and started out as a small label. The early releases didn't make much of a splash and the label was on the verge of bankruptcy until Patience & Prudence had their first hit, which sold enough to keep the company solvent. After that, though Patience & Prudence only had one other hit single, Liberty was able to sign other acts who were also successful like Martin Denny. In the 1960s, Liberty was sold off to EMI and United Artists, and the label plugged away until the 1970s, when it was dissolved. The name was brought back a few years later to put out some of the United Artists albums, like those of The Vapors, but it wasn't a real label anymore. The name was again dropped, and again revived in 1992 to be a country music imprint. David Seville's Chipmunks were named after the founders of Liberty.
