Artist: Walt Kelly

Album: Songs Of The Pogo

Appears On (Mixes): Wally's Novelty Mix: She Yo-Yos Me and I Yo-Yo Her Back

Song Notes: Walt Kelly had a couple of records out as well, based on his Pogo strip. This is a pretty obscure song, but it's also one of the most likely that you actually have already. But it's really cool, so I'm going to put it on anyway. I first heard this song when They Might Be Giants covered it during an instore performance (on guitar, snare-drum and accordion, with John Flansburgh shouting out the "Break out the cigars!" line with great relish in the middle of what's otherwise a relatively quiet song), and spent a long time trying to track it down. The LP is actually pretty rare, but I luckily found an mp3 of this song somewhere. I don't even remember where. I do like They Might Be Giants' version a bit more, but it's never been released (or recorded in a studio), and Walt Kelly's original version is really great, too. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
