Lonely boy is a single by Andrew Gold. It is from his album What's wrong with this picture?. There is great similarity between the lyrics of the song and Golds own life. The opening sentence is "He was born on a summer day, 1951" (Gold was born on 2 August of that year). The second verse begins with "In the summer of ' 53 his mother brought him a sister", in that year, Andrew's sister Mary is born. In contradiction of the text has Gold always denied that the song was about himself . The rest of the lyrics of the song seems to point there. It's about the same child-rearing method of first his parents and then by his sister. Both were trying to protect their child (excessive) and that gave children who feel lonely felt ("we'll teach him what we learned, ah yes just what we learned, we'll dress him up warmly"). There are multiple versions of this song. The song distinguished himself from other songs by the frequent use of syncopation.
B-side was Must be crazy of the same LP.
Paul Thomas Anderson used the song in the music of his Boogie Nights, in which a dishwasher in a restaurant in short time becomes porn star, but at the same time, friend and family "loses" and only get listed. In 2007 (unrelated) Farrah and Lazlo Bane the on.
