[edit] Biography

MCA started in 1924 as a Music Booking company, though in the 1960s it had grown considerably, buying the Universal film studio and turning it around from near-bankruptcy. Also in the 1960s, it got into music releasing, by buying Decca. Later, it bought ABC Dunhill and Motown. In 1995, it was bought by Seagram, who changed the name to Universal Music Group. It later bought Polygram and then was sold to Vivendi to become Vivendi Universal, and finally, the "MCA Records" name was folded into Geffen.
