Mercury Rev, despite having a few major label deals and a slot at Lollapalooza, remain a cult band, perhaps due to the experimentation of their earlier records. They're often binned in the same sound as The Flaming Lips, which makes sense as not only as David Fridmann produced a bunch of the Flaming Lips' records, but Jonathan Donahue also joined the band for a short while. They're still going, although their releases are usually relatively far apart.
