Album: Sound Mirrors

Appears On (Mixes): The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates; Best Of 2006

Song Notes: The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates: A few weeks ago, the new Coldcut album came out. Yeah, I know—I didn't know there was a new album coming out either. I just saw it on the New Release wall at the local record shop and was all "Gimme!" I really dug Let Us Play and their remix of "The Guitar" by They Might Be Giants, so, basically, getting the new album (Sound Mirrors) was a no-brainer. The weird thing, though is that it's, well, not what I was expecting at all. It's -- get this—a vocal album. Weird, huh? This is my favorite cut from the record, a piece by Saul Williams with just magnificent lyrics. This is a spoken word piece, though—the rest of the album is, y'know, typical songs. A friend of mine heard this album, and said the first time through he didn't like it much, but the second time through, he knew what to expect, and actually really dug it. That's the thing -- Sound Mirrors is an awesome album, it's just not really a Coldcut record. Think of it as an album by some other band that happens to have the same name and the same guys as Coldcut, and you'll probably be OK. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
