DEVO almost broke up during the recording of this album—which turned out to be their second best record (after Duty Now For The Future). This is their most electropop sounding album, with many tracks having no guitar at all, and the rest having guitar tracks buried in the mix. The concerts for this era were interesting, being performed with a click track and a full video backdrop for every song. The song I Desire is interesting too—not only did Barnes & Barnes do a version with "Before You Leave (Positive Life), but the DEVO version had lyrics co-written by John Hinckley, Jr, the man who tried to kill President Reagan to impress Jodie Foster. (DEVO was always amused that thanks to them, Warner Brothers had Hinckley on their payroll, due to royalties.) Anyway, though, as always, the Infinite Zero one is the version to get if you can help it. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
