Overcome became associated with the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, and proceeds from the sale of the single were donated to charities to benefit the victims of the attack. The original video, directed by Mary Lambert, features Ed Kowalczyk, intercut with footage of the attacks and other world events along with famous quotations such as "The Only Thing We Have To Fear Is Fear Itself" and "Imagine World Peace."
