Artist: Supersnazz

Album: Superstupid!

Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium

Song Notes: Supersnazz is a Japanese punk band; sort of a harder Shonen Knife. They only have two albums available in the US (Superstupid! and Diode City), but they have 4 more (Devil Youth Blues, The Barbarockets, Rock-O-Matic and Invisible Party) in Japan. I only have the two US ones and the latter two Japanese records (they seem to be really hard to find, actually; it's hard enough to find records on US indie labels sometimes, let alone indies from another country!). This is from Superstupid!, which was produced by Kurt Bloch (and one track has Scott McCaughey on harmonica!), and is a cover of the Rivingtons song; the song "Surfin' Bird", which is probably the most famous version is actually two Rivingtons songs put together (the other being "The Bird's The Word") by The Trashmen; however, I think this version owes more to "Surfin' Bird" than the original—it sounds more like a version of "Surfin' Bird" with all the fat cut away. This song is so much fun, live. It just doesn't stop! - Rev. Syung Myung Me
