[edit] Biography
Parlophone was founded in Germany before the first World War, but in the 1920s was bought out by Columbia in the UK, which later merged to become EMI. Under EMI, Parlophone became a label most known for its spoken word and comedy recordings, although when they signed The Beatles, they became a label known especially for their pop and rock music, which is the case today. The label (or, rather, the name) is still going in the UK, putting out lots of records, though usually in the US, they come out under different EMI subsidiaries, often Virgin.
