Peter Maffay, real name: Peter Alexander Nazib (Braşov30 August 1949) is a German singer of Romanian origin. The singer was known for his hit Du.

Brasov, Romania, In 1963 his parents of Transylvania (see: Transylvanian Saxons) to Germany. That same year, he started his first band, The Dukes. After he had completed his studies, he began to act.

Career[Edit]Edit

His career began in 1969 with the song du. the single was a great success in 1970 and is one of the biggest hits from the 70 's. The song was 28 weeks in the German charts.The song was re-released in 1971 and was in Belgium Netherlands five weeks and four weeks in first place in the charts.

The album Steppenwolf in 1979 makes him one of the greatest musical stars from that time. The album entered 1.6 million copies and was the best selling lp to date. The follow-on album Revenge broke the previous record and was 2.1 million once sold. Maffay's later albums also continued to sell well.

Maffay has the German record for the most number of number-one-single-and album charts in the places, including 12 albums. Also, most of his studio albums reached the top 10. He also has the German record for the most albums that were sold more than a million times.

A total of more than 35 million records sold Maffay. Since 1980 are his tours always one of the three most visited attractions in Germany. He has thirteen tours (approximately every two years) and nine of those tours drew the largest number of visitors in that year for an attraction.

In 1995 he was awarded the Paul-Lincke-Ring for his extraordinary merits for the German-language entertainment music awarded.
