Philip Bailey (DenverMay 8, 1951) is an American jazz-, soul-, gospel and R & B-singer.

Bailey was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. Through the plates of a knowledge of his mother he became acquainted with jazz. Other sources of inspiration for him were Motown and Stevie Wonder. In the 1970s he became known as falsetto vocalist of Earth, Wind and Fire, while founder Maurice White baritone and tenor vocals accounted for. It is the voice of White that can be heard on most hits of EWF, like September, Let's Groove, Boogie Wonderland and After The Love Has Gone. Bailey started In 1983 in addition with a solo career. Continuation, his debut album produced by George Duke, came out in October 1983 . A second solo album followed In 1985. In the same year, he scored a worldwide hit with Easy Lover. This duet with Phil Collins in the Netherlands reached number 1position. Characteristic is its high singing voice.

Bailey started In 1986 to the formation of Earth, Wind & Fire. The band was already three years. After founder White had agreed, they decided to go to the studio together in a new Earth, Wind & Fire-album. Touch the world was the result. Bailey, Ralph Johnson and Verdine White are the only original band members that are still touring.They are complemented by session musicians to make it complete. Also Baileys woman (Kristel Bailey), who once background singers was at the Isley Brothers, touring with the band, as well as his son, Philip Duncan Bailey.
