This CD compiles Neil Innes best album with some various singles and tracks from other projects, including Neil Innes & The World. Recycled Vinyl Blues features Michael Palin of Monty Python in the introduction and is a clever combination of other songs (though performed live, it still has a similar feel to some of the work of The Evolution Control Committee, The Bran Flakes or Negativland). For the most part, though, this is a collection of superb, though relatively straight pop songs. Neil Innes voice has always been somewhat like John Lennon's in places (which he used to great effect in The Rutles), and while I've listened to this album, people have asked me if that IS John Lennon. (After all, "Cheese And Onions" has appeared on various Lennon bootlegs as an unreleased demo!) Anyway, though, of all the post-Bonzos stuff I've heard, this is by far the most essential and excellent. Fans of the Bonzo Dog Band and fine pop music in general should seek out this great CD. Unfortunately, none of Neil Innes' solo material has been released in the US, but sometimes his music can be found as imports. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
