History[Edit]Edit

The history of Sailor was initially conceived as a whole. It was going to be continuing the tradition of a sailor café in Paris, Le Matelot where Josephine Baker would have occurred. There were all kinds of facts at concocted to this glamrockband to get in the spotlight. That succeeded in the beginning only in Netherlands where Traffic Jam was a fairly big hit in late 1974. This was followed by some others. The members invariably performed on a special in sailors suits designed for them and they played musical instrument: the Nickelodeon, a stretch in which various synthesizers to were hanged. The music was marked by the very open sound. Most music and lyrics are submitted by Georg Kajanus. The band had also a good composer in Phil Picket would later turn out at the Culture Club, but he had to comply with in the concept of Kajanus.

The first singles and albums were successful through the unique melancholic sound, but after they sold a lot less. That was caused by a unilateral way of composing; everything in the service of the same theme.Because of the great similarity of the various numbers on the LP Sailor, these are almost interchangeable. After five albums was apparently the inspiration on. the end was accelerated by the rise of the little punk that had to have of this mannered music, but in the end, the first successful concept to the band also done.

After leaving the band in various compositions reunion concerts and came then in the Golden Oldie-circuit. Latest series appeared no more.
