Saxon is a British heavy metal band. The band was founded in 1976 , and is considered to be one of the big names from the NWOBHM-flow in the late 1970s.

The band was formed under the name Son of a Bitch by singer Peter "Biff" Byford, guitarists Paul Quinn and Graham Oliver, bassist Steve Dawson and drummer Pete Gill.

Over the years the band knew different occupations, although singer Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn ever active presence remained.

Saxon has had many line-up, of the original cast are only Peter Paul Byford and Quinn remaining. Drummer Pete Gill left the band in 1981 due to an injury to his hand; He was replaced by Nigel Glockler, which likewise because of injury between 1987 and 1988 was temporarily replaced by Nigel Durham. The bassist Steve Dawson left in 1986 and successor Paul Johnson left the band two years later. Nibbs Carter eventually becomes his replacement and is still the band bass player. Guitarist Graham Oliver left in 1995 and was replaced by Doug Scarratt. After all the changes announced also that he left Glockler, and so was the GermanFritz Randow yet another drummer for the band that lasted until 2004, after which Jörg Michael replaced him. He also left the band after one year, after which Glockler returned.

The bassist Steve Dawson and the guitarist Graham Oliver have put together a new incarnation founded by Son of a Bitch, that transformed into an alternate version of Saxon: Oliver-Dawson Saxon.
