Scott McKenzie (Jacksonville, Florida, 10 January 1939 – Los Angeles, 18 August 2012) was an American singer. He is best known for his hit San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) from 1967.

Life Course[Edit][]
McKenzie was on January 10, 1939 in Jacksonville, Florida born Philip Blondheim. He grew up in Virginia and became friends with the son of one of his mother's friends, John Phil Lambert. At the end of the 1950she formed a band with Phil lips doowop, The Locals. They also performed together on under other names, such as The Journeymen in 1964. Phil lips began at that time the group The Mamas & The Papas withMichelle Gilliam, Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot. McKenzie wanted to prefer solo performance, while Phil lips formed the Group and eventually moved to California . A short time later, McKenzie followed him from New York City and he signed a contract with Lou Adlers Odelabel. Phil lips San Francisco wrote and produced for McKenzie and it was released in 1967. Phil Lambert played in this number the call played guitar and Cass Elliot . It became a top five hit in America, and in several countries, including the Netherlands, reached number-one position.
San Francisco was successful all over the world, and is regarded nowadays as a real hippie song. After this single was released, Like an old time movie written and produced by Phil lips again, but much less successful than its predecessor. McKenzie released two albums: The Voice of Scott McKenzie and Stained Glass Morning. At the end of the sixties he stopped recording and he went for a short time in a desert andVirginia Beach live.
In 1986 he went in a new version of The Mamas & The Papas singing and in 1988 he wrote along with Phil lips hit the Beach Boys- Kokomo. He retired In 1998 and he stopped with The Mamas & the Papas.
McKenzie died on 18 August 2012 at the age of 73 following a nerve disorder. [1]
